Natives at Growing Grounds Farm

Hope Through Horticulture: Nurturing Plants And People

In late 2004, Growing Grounds Farm shifted from growing six-packs of color to growing natives and Mediterranean perennials. San Luis Obispo County has many areas where excessive water use is an issue, and we wanted to offer plants which thrive with less water. Native plants come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, and can be added to almost any garden. We have natives which grow in shade, part shade, or full sun.
There are many reasons why California natives make sense in garden landscapes. The California Native Plant Society is a great resource for information about native plants, as well as a list of why to use natives. We are proud to be members of CNPS. For more information about CNPS, click here.
Environmental restoration and mitigation are another way in which natives are utilized. We have been fortunate to be able to work with the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County on a restoration project in the Nipomo Black Lake area. We have also worked with the Los Padres Chapter of the California Conservation Corps and Greenspace-Cambria Land Trust.
